Choosing cabinet paint colors: the method
1. Start with your counters. They are not changing. The cabinet color must work with the stone you have. Bring the sample to the counter, not the paint chip to the store.
2. Check your light. North light is cool. South light is warm. Wooded lots filter green. The same white looks different in each. Sample in your kitchen.
3. Decide bold or quiet. Quiet: white, cream, light gray. Bold: navy, forest green, charcoal. Two-tone splits the difference.
4. Live with the sample. Tape the board to a door. Look at it morning and night. Two days of looking beats two years of regret.
Pairings that always work
Warm white cabinets, dark counters, brass pulls. Light gray cabinets, white counters, black pulls. Navy island, white perimeter, marble-look counters. These are classics for a reason.
